There can no question that our world is in darkness. People are hurting! Our church has had the same name for six decades, and it is appropriate. Emmanuel means "God with us" (Matthew 1:23). Those in darkness need the lighthouse to shine out the message of truth: God is with us! We don't have to hurt or stumble in darkness, for Jesus has brought us light:
Matthew 4:16-17 KJV The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. (17) From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
